I am drafting this prayer for those who feel alone or that they do not have any friends. I would just like to say first of all that Jesus Christ is your friend and has honored us with his friendship. He will never leave you nor forsake you and so you are never alone. But I know it can be very difficult when you don’t feel like you have fellowship with other believers. So I wrote this prayer for you. Please be open to the Lord providing you friends in the way he should see fit. They may not necessarily be the people you think they are. What is important in my mind is that they are followers of Jesus Christ.
Petition for Friendship
Lord Jesus Christ, I thank you for calling me your friend. I am honored to be your friend and I know that you are always with me. You will never leave me nor forsake me and it is in you that I live and move and have my very being. But I know that you meant for your body which is the Church to come together in fellowship, in prayer and in the breaking of bread. And so Lord I ask that you put in my path true friends, friends who are loyal to you above all else, whose hearts are devoted to you and who will be as a true brother (or sister) to me.
I know that whatever I ask I shall receive so I ask Lord for you to provide me with brothers (or sisters) so that I may have fellowship with them, break bread with them and that you may be glorified in us through our fellowship. May we mourn with each other in times of mourning and rejoice with each other in times of happiness. May we give each other wise counsel and provide hospitality for each other in times of need. And if there are ways that I could be a better friend to others please open my eyes Lord. If there is any place where my heart is hard and I am not giving or receiving love as I should please soften it. Please enlarge my heart and widen my affections to all. Amen.
