I have written this affirmation/prayer as a support for bolstering our witness to the World. “Light” can take many forms (a kind word, an affirming smile, speaking the truth) but it always has the persistent quality of exposing darkness and doing away with it. This is because our Lord Jesus Christ, who is in the faithful, is the true light, and darkness cannot abide in him or in his presence (John 1:4).
Light of the World
The Lord Jesus Christ abides in me and therefore I am the light of the world. I believe in him and so I shall not abide in darkness, for darkness cannot abide in him. May his light expose all the works of darkness within me and destroy them, that I may be purified. May my thoughts, words and deeds be as a bright lamp, that I may be a guide to others unto the paths of righteousness, holiness and godliness. Though at times my candle may flicker, it shall never go out for I am sustained by the divine fire in Christ Jesus. His spirit in me works through me to guide others to him and out of the darkness, he who is the truth, the way and the life everlasting. Amen.
