When You Feel Like You’re Running Out of Patience…

I am currently going through my own struggles with endurance and patience. I often read that many Christians have just received a setback and they feel like giving up. I know what this is about and find myself often ridings highs and lows on the spiritual rollercoaster even within a given day. So with that in mind I am writing this prayer for all of us who are struggling with setbacks and disappointments and feeling discouraged.

Prayer for Patience

Lord your word provides that one of the fruits of the Holy Spirit is patience and because I have the Holy Spirit indwelling me I affirm that I have the patience of Jesus Christ, an infinite and unwavering patience, even if at times I yield to the Devil’s temptations and as a result lose my patience. I also know Lord that you test the hearts and minds, and so I should expect to have my patience tested, and that such testing is for my good, for all things work out for good for those who love you.

If you did not discipline me Lord with this testing I would not be your child. Therefore Lord I thank you for each and every test of my patience and for the confidence you have in me that I will ultimately prevail over these temptations. Lord I plead your steadfast love and mercy on those occasions when I do stumble and I thank you for your graciousness. Lord though I have stumbled I know you will lift me up and I pray Lord that you increase my patience and shower me with your grace that I may bear the burdens that you have seen so fit to give to me without complaining or muttering and with complete humility and endurance. I praise the Lord for my afflictions and pray that I continue to draw close to you during these trials and grow in Christ Jesus. Amen.
